DESCRIPTIVE TECHNICAL REPORT OF THE PROPERTY NAMED "CASTLE TRAVAZZANO"
The Roman castle, situated on the lower piacentlne hills between the Val d’Arda and the Val Nure, in the municipality of Carpaneto Piacentino in the locality of Travazzano.
TI fort indicated with the name Trabicianum is mentioned for the first time in the twelth century as a refuge of nobles outside the city. In the thirteenth century, it belonged to the noble Mancassola family, owners of other properties in Val Chero and the vicinity. In 1216 it was destroyed, then rebuilt and occupied between 1244 and 1246, by the armed forces of Lazio, the King of Sardinia in the failed attempt to conquer Piacenza. In 1435 it was reacquired by Alberto Scotti who rebuilt it, surrounding it with ditches and walls with towers and gates. From the Scotti’s it passed to the Chiapponi and then to the Sidoli that, in 1852, left in hereditary to the Seminary of Bedonia. In 2004, the owner made important reconstruction and works to conserve the buildings and restore its sophisticated antique splendour that we can admire today. The original Irregular plan, substantially square, has four structures in stone wall, that surround a trapezoidal courtyard. In the south-west corner rises a slender tower, probably the oldest part of the castle. Beside the tower, in a southerly position, is the entrance with arched facing, probably belonging to a previous fourteenth century castle. More recently, the property is accessed by double entrances, pedestrian and vehicle, with seats for the heads of the drawbridge. The southern part, on the north-west corner, is united to another circular tower. Inside the castle there is a lounge with a superbly crafted fireplace with the arms of Chiapponi and with coffered ceilings with painted wooden beams.
